Writing on Beach

What better time to write than the summer? It’s hot. You need the AC. And obviously, you have a lot on your mind. Isn’t it time to tell this story, the one that’s been inside you for some time, banging on the walls of your mind or wherever else it bangs? Join me — there’s no time like the present, and the 2023 WGA Strike (and my availability) won’t last forever. Let’s make hay while the sun shines!

My summer intensive workshop has a unique format:

Two days of writing exercises, a retreat if you will — Thursday, July 6 and Saturday, July 8 — to jumpstart the process and unlock creative pathways. Then a break to write independently, followed by three consecutive Thursdays — July 13, 20, and 27 — to share pages and receive valuable feedback. This workshop will be a place in which to explore your creative process and both new and ongoing projects – from first impulse to first draft and beyond.

Who should enroll? Folks that have something in them that needs out through words. It’s a multi-disciplinary workshop – playwrights, screenwriters, essayists, fiction writers, poets, memoirists, bloggers, and everything else, are welcome. Students will develop the muscles and habits of authentic, connected writing. In addition, we will probe the subconscious mind, unravel the mysteries of story structure, create multidimensional characters, explore surprising ways to build your project and receive valuable feedback. Perhaps best of all, you’ll develop relationships with other creatives, some of whom are right here in your own community!
